Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental health disorder that can cause hyperactivity, impulsivity, and or inattention. ADHD may also cause trouble focusing their attention on a single task or sitting still for long periods of time.
Both adults and children can have ADHD. It often begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood. It may contribute to low self-esteem, troubled relationships, and difficulty at school or work. Although ADHD can’t be cured, it can be successfully managed and some symptoms may improve as the child ages.
Many adults with ADHD do not realize they have the disorder. Adults with ADHD are treated with medication, psychotherapy, or a combination.
